  1. Great showbiz story! The only thing it lacked was an injured star, with an opening night understudy vaulting to stardom!

For all those that desire to write for telivision, this is a great story of the marrage of a great song with a great program and the ups and downs of that end of the business. Thanks for sharing it Barry.

What an inspiring story. So much to learn from it. Thank you Mr. DeVorzon for sharing your life experiences in the music business. Music is wonderful, sometimes makes one feel kind of hopeless but stories like yours, inspire me to believe again and love even more what I do.

    All the best!

  4. Michael Hart says:

  5. Michael Hart says:

Oh… for those a bit to young (or to old!) to remember the show, here is the title sequence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Iwp1d7eKbA

    • Thanks for posting this, Michael. This song holds great memories for me (I am one of the ‘olders’)….I can remember boppin’ to the theme as I was riding or driving through town.

  6. Jeff says:

Great story!! Also great theme. Barry, it wasn’t a lucky star or someone up there liking you, it was purely you’re talent and ability. If something is great, people respond and it rises to the top. It’s that simple.

Success is when preparation meets opportunity, but believe me you need a little luck in there to get it done.

I really enjoyed the story about the theme to S.W.A.T. Very interesting and you have a calm and humble way of speaking. Hope to hear more. BTW, have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waIBA6_0GQc&NR=1 I really enjoyed this as Steeley Dan was always one of my favorite bands and Roger Nichols was one of my favorite engineers.

  11. Neil says:

    Great story, Barry.

If you’re going to do future episodes, I’d like to put in a request that you cover your work on the movie “Looker.” An underrated, and a movie that was ahead of its time, the music of “Looker” still holds up today.

You’d be surprised at how popular “Looker” is.

The French musician, Sebastian Tellier, made a whole song and video as a tribute to “Looker.”

Now I’m talking about your music for the film, not necessarily the songs by Sue Sadd/Kim Carnes.

I was pleasantly surprised that you remember “Looker” and that you like the music. Thanks for the compliments.

    Barry,

Your music is of great importance and a great influence in my musical life.

I am one of only 15 registered people in the world who own the original 12″ versions of “Theme From Warriors” http://www.discogs.com/Barry-De-Vorzon-Theme-From-The-Warriors/release/708797 as well as the “Theme From S.W.A.T.

I was just now collating two songbooks together for my songwriting partner & I of our 100+ songs we have written over 20 years and was listening to Betrayal by Tangerine Dream as I was working away, thought about the Warriors movie trailer and then wanted to hear your track “The Theme From Warriors”.

I pulled it out of the record collection, listened to it and thought about you, went to Wikipedia soon thereafter and lo and behold found a link to MasterWriter. What are the odds, of all the people in the world who could offer me songwriting help and it’s Mr. Barry Devorzon himself.

I have been a singer/songwriter for 20 years and have just found MasterWriter tonight all the way out here in Australia. Having employed similar songwriting techniques before, though disparate, it is wonderful to find software that does everything I used to do by having to scrape together tools from the internet.

Can’t wait to start using MasterWriter, even though I’m still speechless from the synchronicity.
    Warmest Regards
    Aaron
